- AACR2 stands for the Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules, Second Edition. It is published jointly by the American Library Association, the Canadian Library Association, and the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals in the UK.
- Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules (AACR) are designed for use in the construction of catalogues and other lists in general libraries of all sizes.
- The rules cover the description of, and the provision of access points for, all library materials commonly collected at the present time.
- The second edition of the rules is based on a reconciliation of the British and North American texts of the 1967 edition. This extends to style, which is generally in accordance with the Chicago Manual of Style, and to spellings, which are those of Webster’s New International Dictionary.
SUMMARY :
In this AACR2, I' m going to learn how to do classification, to write ISBN, subject heading, how to use the second description, how to put the entry in the cataloging. This cataloging not only for books but also for non-book materials. In the other way we can say that ACCR2 is the format or the way that we are cataloging books and non-books materials. So this include contains three parts which are classification, descriptive cataloging and subject cataloging. Descriptive cataloging describe an item, identifies access points and formats access points using Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules and appropriate name authority files.
